Breakfast Basics
Grades K-2

School breakfast provides a nutritious morning meal that meets one-fourth of children’s daily needs for calories and key nutrients, including calcium. This lesson will help you teach students the importance of breakfast and also introduce your school breakfast program.

Manners Matter
Grades K-2

Manners and hand-washing go "hand in hand" when it comes to a safe and pleasant cafeteria environment. This lesson will increase student awareness of how practicing proper hand-washing along with good manners in the cafeteria will lead to not only a pleasant and relaxed lunchroom experience, but also a safe one.

Kitchen Expedition: A Tour of the Kitchen
Grades K-3

Although students view the cafeteria as the place they go for their breakfast or lunch, it can also be a great educational opportunity. Why not use the cafeteria and your experience as the "food expert" to educate students on what goes on "behind the scenes" to get school meals ready? This lesson demonstrates ways to educate your students about the "ins and outs" of school meals.

Healthy Lunch
Grades 2-4

Children need to eat a variety of foods and participate in daily physical activity to grow up healthy. Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) developed the MyPyramid Food Guidance System that provides specific recommendations for making good food choices based on the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This lesson uses MyPyramid for Kids and related materials to teach children how to make good food choices in the cafeteria.

Milk is More than a Mustache
Grades 3-5

Milk and foods made from milk provide our bodies with calcium and eight other essential nutrients for strong bones and overall good health. Recent studies show that 7 out of 10 boys and 9 of 10 girls are not getting the calcium they need.

This lesson will focus on the importance of choosing milk at school, and drinking it, in order to receive the benefits and nutrients students need for strong bones and teeth.
